In researching for this topic, I emailed the Vancouver Island Regional Library (VIRL), as well as several local school librarians. I included a selection of elementary, middle and high school responses. My initial email read as follows:
"Hi there,
I am presently taking a course on graphic novels and comic books in the library for my master's degree in teacher-librarianship, and one of my projects is on the selection and collection of graphic novels. I am hoping that you can briefly tell me a little bit about the process/policy you use to select your graphic novels. As well, how do you shelve and/or display your collection?
Also, for my own personal interest, I am wondering if you carry any comic books. If so, how do you select and display these?
I appreciate your time, and thank you in advance for your response."
I received responses from one elementary school, two middle schools and two high schools, which I have copied and pasted into the School Libraries page. It is quite evident that there are varied collection and selection policies within the school district. I have created the Public Libraries page for the repsonses from VIRL, and upon reading these responses, it is clear that there are some policies in place and that they are working on ways of displaying them.
